Xiao's crimson red eyes surveyed the area before him. Sand, sand, sand, in any direction he stared at there was nothing but sand. It was slowly getting on his nerves. What he wouldn't give for some form of companionship at this point. He continued on his way through the Idubia Desert to Secstial.
But then a low rumble came from down below. He paused. "Oh, great." He mutter with a low sigh. He tried to concentrate on the low rumbling that seemed to come from the ground. Thank goodness he inherited some of the elven abilities, such as better hearing.
But as soon as he was able to locate the creature, it shot up from the ground. Its mouth wide open, about to swallow him whole. He barely dodged in time as the creature burrowed back down into the sand.
Unsheathing his pure black blade from its scabbard he waited for the sandworm to resurface again. There was no chance he could outrun it, that left him with one option if he wanted to live. Kill it.
Unfortunately, a surprise attack from the sandworm sent him flying. He landed with a soft thud onto the sand. There was a gash on his head that oozed bright red blood down the right side of his face, blinding his right eye for the moment. The scent of his blood in the air was enough to send him on edge. He smirked and lunged for the creature.

OOC: Hope you don't mind if I jump in... IC: The sun beat down on Rile as his hooves sunk into the sand. Plodding along, face downcast and hair sticky with sweat sticking to his forehead. His bare back towards the sun had a pink tint from the constant radiation. As his hooves moved automatically and without thought, he began to wonder why the hell he had followed those directions. The old man in that market in the last town was wrong, or had tricked him on purpose. This wasn't the first time it had happened, either. Rile had been tricked and sent the wrong direction before, but never had it ended him up in such a place as this desert.
What he should have done was turn around once he had realized where he was going. He had been walking and daydreaming, not looking at his surroundings at all, until he felt the sun had gone from the sky and looked up to see he was completely surrounded by sand. He would have probably been able to find his way back if it wasn't for the wind that had picked up, eradicating his tracks, or if the sun hadn't gone down within a matter of moments, his world going black in a sheath of darkness.
The night was terrible. He managed little sleep, lying against a dune as the cold wind blew. It surprised him how deathly hot it was during the day, yet how amazingly cold it was at night. He woke up the next morning, everything but one arm and half of his face buried in the sand that had blown over him. Was this how things disappeared? After pulling himself out of the sand he continued to walk, not knowing where he was headed. At first he wasn't sure if the mirages were beginning, and if it was coming to an end for him when he saw a being battling a giant worm that jumped into and out of the sand. He approached with caution, and watched as the mirage failed to disappear.
Once it didn't, he made a choice. He wasn't sure if the man-being could handle a worm that size all by itself. Once the worm jumped from the sand from behind the being, and jumped over top him, Rile made his move. He jumped over a dune and charged the worm, smacking it in its 'face' just before it dug back into the sand. Stunned, it failed to continue into the sand, and Rile took advantage of the opportunity. He reared and then fell, his massive hooves landing where he supposed the worms head should be. It made a sick squealing sound before writhing away and moving back into the sand. Rile waited, ignoring the being who had been fighting the worm previously, until the danger was gone.

Xiao raised his pure black blade at the centaur. His crimson red eyes still filled with a dark blood lust that would send chills down one's spine. But the look quickly vanished soon replaced by gentle smile. He lowered his sword once he realized that the man had saved his butt and was no immediate threat to him... for now. He smiled gratefully. "Thanks." He bowed politely, just as he had been taught to do. He sheathed his sword then scratched the back of his head. "I thought I might die there."
Then another realization dawned on him. He looked around then sighed. The giant sandworm had already burrowed deep into the sand, long gone by now. "It escaped before I could collect the fangs." He murmured in disappointment. Sandworm fangs, even pieces of them, sold for a fairly good price if you knew who to sell them to. And he was in desperate need of money.
The blood continued to drip down the right side of his face. It went unnoticed by him. He looked back to the centaur. "Er..." He paused for a few seconds. "I'm Xiao." He threw out his name though wasn't sure if the centaur wanted it. He seemed a bit lost in his own thoughts.

At first Rile paid no attention to the elf. He had no extra sensory perception telling him that danger had passed, so he was still on edge. His black tail flicked from side to side, hair wet and scraggly on his forehead, bothering him but not causing him to move it from its sticky place. The silence of the desert, except for the wind, was broken by the sound of the creature's voice who he had attempted to save. He said his thanks, and then told him that he thought he was going to die by that worm. Rile looked at the man, whose eyes were red (he hadn't noticed from afar), and regarded him with an open stare, not replying for a moment. His breathing was regular, despite the exertions, but his heart was beating quickly.
The man-thing was a few feet shorter than Rile, which was very normal because Rile was about 7-8 feet tall, and his horse-body ended at 6 feet tall. He was used to towering above others, and he preferred it that way. He didn't think himself better than others, though, which was good. Being humble was good.
Then the man offered his name. Xiao. What a strange name. The smile on the man-thing's face assured Rile that immediate danger had passed, so he too offered a small smile. Muscles relaxed, and he wiped the hair from his face with his hand. His body glistened with perspiration, black coat damp, trying to keep his body cool. He was also very dehydrated because of all the sweating, and traveling.
"Rile," he replied back. "Pleasure to meet you, Xiao." He bent down, reaching a hand out as if to shake it. He had learned from humans he had encountered back when he first left home that it was a custom for humans to shake. Xiao had bowed, but Rile didn't pick this up as traditional. He wasn't the smartest Centaur in the world.

Xiao smiled as he looked to the giant centaur man's hand. He took the creature's hand in his and shook it, as most humans did when they meet for the first time. He preferred to bow, it showed more respect to others but if the centaur felt a handshake would suffice, well, he couldn't swat the hand away, now could he? Plus he felt rather insignificant next to Rile. He was only a mere 5 foot 6. More than likely the centaur had the ability to squash him if he wanted to.
"The pleasure's all mine, Rile." He let go of his hand. His gaze then turned up towards the blue sky. The sun was reaching its highest peak. Now it was at its hottest. They should seek shelter soon before they were burnt to a crisp. The Idubia Deserts were known for their deathly hot days. How much further was Secstial now? Would they make it there before dehydration slowed them down? He unconsciously licked his lips, discovering that blood still dripped down his face. "Oh." He touched the side of his face and pulled back to find the blood stained onto his fingers. An unnerving pulse of blood lust flowed through his body but he quickly shook it off.
He returned his attention to Rile. A curious smile on his face. "Where is it that you are heading?" Was this where they part ways?
Fortunately or unfortunately, this was not the case. In the distance, a pack of chimeras were heading this way. More than likely lured here by the scent of blood. As they drew nearer one lunged for Rile, trying to rip out his limbs, as another tackled Xiao to the sand. Its jaws clamped unto Xiao's arm. Xiao screamed in pain and used a burst of fire magick to rip the chimera off him. Bloody gashes now decorated his arm. The chimera growled and lunged again.

"Why in the world would someone what a chimera's blood?" Kellen asked himself again and wiped the sweat from his face. "If the reward wasn't 1500 gold, I would have never come to this barren wasteland, and it is tempting to left now," Kellen thought and looked down at the sand. He was flying high speed over the sand and was bored to tears."It is times like this I wish I could find a chimera to tangle with," Kellen said and sighed, but perked up as he saw sand flying in the distance. “Just what the doctor ordered," Kellen thought and put of the speed.
"YES, and how are they?" Kellen thought as he saw the chimeras and the others. One was a centaur and the other looked human."Need help," Kellen yelled down as he dove and pulled out Flame and Ice, twin swords. “I’ll take this one," Kellen said and stabbed the chimera that almost jumped on the human." You’re a half breed?" Kellen ask shocked. he saw the elf ears and temporarily let his guard down, letting one of the chimeras jump on him and Kellen went tumbling of the dead one and having the chimera bit down on his shoulder." CRAP!" kellen yelled and started pulling the chimera off.

Xiao took the small opportunity presented to him by the other being to attack the remaining chimeras. He gripped his sword tight and slashed the chimera that bit down on the being's shoulder. He murmured incantations under his lips, then in bursts of flames, each one was now incinerated to a burnt crisp. He smiled in satisfaction. "Not so tough now." He poked the charred remains with the tip of his blade. Now what to do with the bodies? Could he sell them like that? Probably not. Who wanted chimeras anyway?
He turned and looked to the newcomer. "Ah, thanks. You're the second person to save my butt today." Why is it that he seemed to attract dangerous things? He inwardly sighed. "Anyways, I'm Xiao. And this here is Rile." He gestured to the giant centaur. "As to the question you posed to me earlier, yea, I am a half-breed." Usually when people other than his friend, Lily, called him a half-breed he would have snapped back at them. But since this guy seemed to be a half-breed as well, he felt that the question was not in a demeaning manner.
He sighed and looked to the horizon. The sun was setting. Where had the day gone? "It's going to get cold soon..." He wondered if Lily was still waiting in Secstial for him. Probably not. Oh well. He looked to his two... companions. "Ok, now that we got everything out of the way, I have to ask, where are you guys heading?" It would be nice if one of them was going in the same direction as him.

In a flurry of sand and violence, a herd of chimeras attacked Rile and the strange man-thing with red eyes. His giant feet backed up, front feet kicking in the air to ward off one of the creatures from attacking him. He wasn't wrong about it; once the chimeras attacked they completely ignored Rile and went after the red-eyed-man. Before the centaur could plan a small attack in his mind, some other strange creature man-thing appeared as if from nowhere, scattering a few chimeras and slaying three or so. This helped the red-eyed-man to collect himself and finish off the remaining Chimeras. A few escaped, but that was to be expected.
Rile looked about himself, astonished by the speed of the developments. His tail twitched in annoyance, brow furrowing slightly at not being able to follow what was happening. Rile wasn't stupid, for a centaur, but it was well known that Centaurs' brains did function a bit slower than others, when surprised. Being half beast made it difficult, sometimes. He relied on instincts, planning, and reflexes more than solving problems, and other such things. Some centaurs could keep up, or surpass humanoids with their mental skills, but Rile was mostly brawn. There's nothing really wrong with being 'the muscle'.
The newest arrival, for whatever reason, bothered Rile. He was loud, and noisy, and obnoxious. Xiao wasn't like that, as far as Rile knew, was more like a calm river with a fast current and strong undertow. Rile was an open torrent with rapids, and the occasional calm bays. He stood statuesque, watching the humanoids, tail flicking, and his hind leg stomping as a fly attempted to bite at his thigh. Where was he headed? "I'm just looking for a way out of the desert. Water would be great, if anyone knows where to find some sort of oasis," he replied, his throat dry.

Xiao then whacked his head with the palm of his hand. "I have a canteen of water in my bag." He swung the bag off his shoulder, slightly amazed that it wasn't torn open during the battles with the sandworm or the chimeras. He mumbled under his breath something along the lines of 'If you're thirty why didn't you say so.' He shuffled through the random items in his bag and soon found a canteen filled with water. He handed the thing to Rile. "Drink it all if you want. I'm pretty sure that we're close to Secstial, so it should be alright. You can travel along if you like." He offered to both of them.
His crimson eyes looked to the other half-breed. "You want a drink?" He had another canteen in his bag. It really concerned him that anyone would travel into a desert without provisions, but he was certain that the newcomer brought his own supplies when he traveled into the desert.
The blood from his previous fight had dried to his face now. It felt sticky and crusted over his face. He placed a hand over the gash and healed it up nicely. He did the same to his torn up arm. "Good as new." He mused quietly.

The centaur watched as the man-thing with red eyes, named Xaio, took out a canteen of water. At the sight of it Rile felt weak and his mouth managed to gather moisture from somewhere enough to make his mouth water. Somehow, at the same time, his throat felt tight and dryer than it had previously. He bent down and reached for the canteen, taking it thankfully. He placed the bottle opening to his lips after removing the lid, and drank deeply. Xiao said he didn't mind if he drank the whole thing, so he did. The water in the canteen was more than he expected, but was barely enough to wet his throat down. That was okay. He knew that if he had the option, he would drink water until it all rushed back up the same way it had come in.
He drained the last of it, and then closed his eyes, breathing heavily after holding his breath while drinking. He savored the wetness in his mouth before it vanished and returned back to its parched state. He opened his eyes slowly and wiped his mouth with his forearm before re-attaching the cap and handing the canteen back to Xiao. "Thank you," he said. The man-thing, Xiao, was inspecting wounds that had miraculously healed.
"I say we get back to wherever... wherever this isn't," meaning the desert, he looked around, and squinted in the last pains of twilight as the sun descended over the horizon. The wind swept up the hot sand, leaving a chill in the air.

"Get off," Kellen said as he pushed the half roasted chimera off him. The chimera was only alive, but just." Good, the dead don't bleed," Kellen thought and pulled a jar out of his bag. Kellen leaned down and slit the creatures throat, collecting the blood in the jar." that should be anoff," Kellen said as he put the top of the jar back on and sealed it, wincing a little from the pain in his shoulder. Kellen turned to see the wound was shallow, but would restrict his to the ground for a while."Crap, that just great," Kellen thought and turned to the other two. “The name is Kellen, finest dealer in good from all around, nonliving and living," Kellen said with a smile."And why are you two out here?"Kellen asked, suspicion aroused.
Kellen shook his head at the offered water and said," no thanks, I have my own," he said and reached back for his, but finding non." what the, HEY!" Kellen yelled as he saws his favorite canteen lying next to the chimera he had just dried." Son of a ...." Kellen said as he saw it in pieces." I guess I will wait, seeing I can't fly for a while," Kellen said, showing his shoulder. He healed fast, but not that fast. He turned to the half-breed Xiao and asked" what two species are you from anyway? Human and elf?" Kellen asked curiously."And might I suggest we head that way. I saw what looked like a town, if you would call it that, when I was flying," Kellen said, putting his swords away. He forgot he still had them out.

Xiao looked to the duo, he could only heal himself, which truly was a shame since the others were battered and bruised a bit. Although Kellen seemed to be fairing well in the healing department, not as fast as him but it was something. He smiled gratefully and took the canteen back from Rile. "No problem." He wasn't going to let Rile die of thirst, that would be cruel.
He looked to Kellen and the little jar of blood, "Who in the world would buy chimera blood?" He wondered out loud, though it wasn't meant to be said. Then he realized that Kellen had asked him about his linage. "Er, well... I'm not a hundred percent sure but I guess I would be that. A human and elf meshed together." He crushed his hands together to emphasize that fact.
At the mention of the town and Rile's suggestion, he nodded. "That would be the town of Secstial. Unless there's a secret city I wasn't aware of." He mused curiously. Now wouldn't that be an interesting find. But he highly doubted that. Not many wanted to live in a desert. The cold desert air chilled him to the core. "We should get going. Hopefully nothing else will attack us." But knowing his luck...
Xiao turned towards the direction Kellen pointed to. "Let's go." He began to walk.

On he plodded, his giant hooves sinking and sliding around in the sand. He would have been much more efficient if they had been walking on a hard surface, but there would be little to none of that in the desert. As they began walking, Rile wondered silently to himself how much farther they had to walk, and if they would be able to find suitable lodgings for the trio. He also wondered if they would all separate, which was very likely, or if they would continue to travel as one group until fate separated them. It didn't matter much to Rile, as he was an aimless wanderer, not sure why he went where he did.
The lodgings wasn't worrisome for him, either. He knew that if he wasn't near home they did not have any rooms for Centaurs, because either the rooms were too small, or they didn't allow 'animals' inside their Inns. Rile didn't mind being called an animal, though he knew some Centaurs did. He knew that he was part animal, the part of the animal that people cared about, anyways. He didn't mind spending time in the stables with his other halves, the horses, either. Rile could not speak to the beasts, but they always had a fond understanding of one another, similar to a mother understanding her infant and the various sounds, looks, and cries it makes.
Rile looked to his sides, to see that he was getting a little ahead of the other two. He slowed his stride, remembering how little legs moved slower than big legs. The one humanoid person who said he could fly was injured, and that was a bit worrisome. They might have to seek out first aid in the city they were approaching. The sun set quickly, and now they were in the blue darkness that hits the earth before the black of night.

“It is best you don't know that. My “clients" like their secrets, and pay well for them to stay secrets," Kellen said as Xiao asked about the blood." Understatement of the year," Kellen thought and followed his new companions." so, Rile is it, what side of the woods are you from? Not to push, but I was raised by Centaurs," Kellen said, shrugging it off and wincing and the action re open the closed wound." stupid," Kellen thought to himself and put some pressure on it, stopping the blood leak again. "Never knew my parents as a kid, did you ever meet yours?" Kellen said, turning to Xiao this time, keeping his voice neutral. As he kid he never meet them, but later, well," next time," Kellen thought as his hand went for his dagger, the only thing he had of them.
“wow," Kellen said, started as he slipped and nearly fell." how do you two walk in this?" Kellen asked and straitened himself." man, this would be so much easier flying, but, at least there are no more beast around," Kellen said and felt a small rumble under his feet." You feel that?" Kellen asked and stopped." uh, what creatures live in the desert?" Kellen asked nervously as he felt it again.

"I guess you're right. But I have no honest clue as to what you would use chimera blood in..." Chimeras were a very fierce creature, one you really don't want to mess with if you can help it. So, to hire someone to get it for you meant you needed it very badly. He shook his head. Why should he worry about that anyway?
Xiao noticed that Rile was getting further ahead of them. "Hey, wait up, Rile." He called out. "Not all of us have the luxury of legs that can make long strides." He playfully added. He wished he had Kieli with him, then maybe he would have a better mode of transportation, like a camel. Now that would be useful right about now. He would have asked Rile for a ride, but thought it would be rude and it seemed that Rile was having his own problems walking in the fine sand of the Idubia Desert. So he continued walking on his won two feet.
Xiao stayed silent for a few moments when asked if he ever met his parents before he spoke. "No, I never did." His voice cold and harsh. "And I never want to." He was abandoned as an infant. For what reasons, he never knew. The kind old elven couple and Lily was the only family he ever needed.
The low rumble in the ground caught his attention, too. "Not many things live in such a hot desert... Usually sandworms and chimeras, a banshee might live here... compies too... minotaurs... lamias...." He listed a few things that might live in a desert. But only the sandworms would attack from below.

Incessant chatter was being had behind him. Rile didn't really mind it, so long as he didn't have to speak too much. The one with the blood and the wings was beginning to get on his nerves, however, as he never seemed to shut his trap. Xiao, on the other hand, listened politely and answered back appropriately. He seemed to be a gentleman, someone Rile wouldn't mind walking with. He also seemed like the kind of person who didn't mind the silence, and could walk in it for miles. The winged one was different, and would probably talk to himself aloud just to hear his own voice. Different people. Nothing wrong with any of that. He paused, and looked behind him as the others continued walking. Apparently it was more difficult for them in the sand. Bigger feet had an easier time with sand and snow, simply because the surface area was larger. That was how large boats could still float-- surface area. He learned that from an old sailor who was spending his last few days at a pub, drinking 'til he was numb and talking about his life. What a life he had led, too...
The others caught up eventually, fighting their way over a dune. Apparently the loud one had been raised by centaurs, which was unique. Usually the proud creatures didn't care much for other beings, and looked out for their own kind only. There are always odd souls who take in others. He had seen once before how a herd of centaurs randomly had one of those half goat-man things with them, as if it was one of their own, so it wasn't all too uncommon a thing.
"Oh? Raised by Centaurs? What a novel experience that must have been. I never would have guessed," he didn't say anything about his family. Obviously the others seemed to have a harsher childhood than him, so they'd find his story dull. He found his own childhood to be dull, actually. Not until he left home did anything interesting happen to him. There was a slight rumble under his feet. He paused and looked at the ground. The others felt it, too. Immediately he thought of the sandworm, and got into a defensive stance, his feet spread slightly and his senses sharp and aware, prepared for whatever was going to happen. He didn't like the desert.

"ok, what do you know of sandworms," Kellen thought to himself and racked his brain for info." big, live in desert, and strike from bellow," Kellen thought and frowned."Wait, the tremors are leaving, or just getting smaller?" Kellen said as the tremors started to shrink, felling like they were leaving. Kellen relaxed for a second, about to crack a joke, when the sand around his explodes.
"KARMA"S A BIT!@##$@!," Kellen yelled as the sandworm's mouth closed around him." o you don't. I am not becoming someone's dinner now!" Kellen yelled and stuck a dagger into the gums on the beast and thought," those teeth must be at least 2000 each." Kellen down to his belt drew ice and started hacking away, trying to open the beast's mouth, and remove a tooth or two.

Xiao’s jaw dropped as he watched Kellen get swallowed whole by the giant sandworm. He looked to Rile. “We got to help him!” He all but ordered to the centaur. And with that he unsheathed his blade and slashed at the worm.
Unfortunately, or fortunately if you’re Kellen, more sandworms began to surface. They roared so loudly before digging back into the ground again. “Great.” Mumbled Xiao. He barely dodged one as it came up from under him. He back flipped and landed ungracefully. Another came up and snapped at Xiao. He backed away from it and thrust his sword into its open mouth. The worm shrieked in pain and withered away from him.
“Rile, make sure that worm doesn’t swallow up Kellen.” What in the world was taking Kellen so long to escape from the sandworm’s mouth. “Bust those teeth loose!” He suggested to Rile. Another sandworm clamped onto his arm and dug down, taking Xiao with him.

More sandworms uprooted themselves from the sand, increasing Rile's hate for the desert. His face screwed up into a grimace. He was sure that one of these ugly beasts was the sandwor, from before, and he had called a gang of his friends together to combat the trio that had defeated him previously. They should have killed the slimy bugger the first time. Now they had... how many? Three? Four? It was difficult to tell, as they dove in and out of the sand, and sometimes had both ends of themselves sticking out of the sand. Xiao began shouting out orders, obviously the type to be a leader.
The beast in Rile didn't want to follow any sort of orders given by a stranger. Defiance rose up in him, but the human side knew that he needed to help- even though he was weaponless. He did, however, have the natural weapons that grew at the bottom of his feet. He looked at Xiao and nodded, just as a sandworm launched itself at Xiao's arm. Rile dug his feet into the sand and pushed against it, fighting to gain some speed. He managed to make his way over to Xiao quickly, at which time he jumped, front hooves raised, and brought himself down hard, hooves at the worm. A sickening smack was heard as the worm crushed under his hooves against the sand, teeth releasing from Xiao's arm, while ripping off some flesh with them.
Rile stomped at the worm, and where he guessed the head was at, then turned quickly to see where the other man was and what was going on. The sandworm that held him in his mouth was huge. Rile gauged his chances of survival from various options that were running in his head. He wasn't the type of person to plan attacks well. The only thing he could do was try to get the worm to drop the man from his mouth. Without too much thought, he ran at the worm, hooves managing to dig in and grip just enough. He then tackled the worm as if he were playing that game human children played with pigskin, knocking the worm's raised part to the sand. Hopefully the man could get away.

" I'm rich," Kellen shouted. He had detached a second tooth from the sandworm and was stowing it away into belt. " Time to get out," Kellen shouted and pulled out his double bladed fire sword and started spinning it, activating the spells in it." DIE YOU VERMIN!" Kellen shouted and sent wind from the creature's lungs to shoot fire straight out of its mouth, looking like a dragon sandworm." I AM NOT LUNCH!" Kellen shouted and jumped out of the creature's mouth and slicing it on the way down, making a giant cut down its front." Oh, yuck," Kellen said and he cut through an artery and the worms blood poured over him. " CRAP!" Kellen yelled as the worm started to fall... on him. " RUN!" Kellen said and ran slowly through the sand, tripping his way through. Kellen spread his wings but found the wing still not healed enough to fly." DARK TAKE IT," Kellen shouted as he tripped again.
