Xiao winced as the sandworm's hold on his arm was torn loose. Gashes now decorated from the tip of his finger to his shoulder. Blood, bright and red, dripped down and pooled around him. "That hurts like hell..." He mumbled irritably. He sighed and looked to Rile and Kellen. "Damnit, Kellen!" He yelled as he watched the corpse of a sandworm start to fall right on top of him. His eyes darkened with blood lust. He gripped the hilt of his sword, muttered an incantation under his breath, and unleashed a wave of dark black flames. The sandworms burned to ashes and nothing more.
He sighed in relief. "That was close..." He quickly stumbled his way over to Rile and Kellen. His eyes seemed unfocused but he grinned happily, glad that no one was too seriously hurt. "You guys ok? That sure was fun, huh." He joked, but he seemed tired and worn out as he said it.
With the danger now gone, Xiao placed a hand over the torn up arm and focused. But he only had enough stamina to partially heal it. It close up slightly but still bled a bit. "Damn..." Was the last thing he manged to say before he collapsed onto the fine sand.

Just before a mass of semi-dead sandworm fell atop the winged half-breed Kellen (Rile finally began remembering his name), a burst of black magic, which looked strikingly like flames to Rile, enveloped the sandworms. A shower of black ash erupted in the place of the sandworms after they had burned, floating harmlessly down upon the sand and Kellen. Rile looked about it in fascination, holding out his hand and catching the black dust in his palm as if it were the first time he had seen snow. Magic was one of the many things Rile did not understand, nor would he ever. It simply wasn't in his blood. He heard Xiao talking, muttering, behind him. The half-man walked up, holding his hand over his wounds. Riled grimaced at the sight of it.
Blood seeped from his wounds. Xiao muttered a few words that were incomprehensible to Rile. It seemed as if the wounds healed partially under his hands, slowing or stopping most of the wound. Unfortunately, the exertions and magic use sapped the rest of his energy. Xiao collapsed upon the sand, the remaining black powder fluttering down over him. Rile walked calmly over, and bent down. He kneeled, with much effort, onto the sand next to unconscious Xiao. The sand held the last warmth of the day, but night was cooling off quickly. They had to find the city in the dark now, and quick, or else they'd all be spooning beneath the moon. Rile picked up Xiao effortlessly, being careful of his wounds, and twisted laboriously, draping him over his own sturdy back. He then faced foreword. By holding onto Xiao's one hand, and one foot on either side, he was able to stand back up without Xiao sliding around or falling back off.
"Alright, Kellen. Let's find this city before anything else can happen," he began to walk, continuing in the direction that they had been headed before the worms attack. He watched, hopes lifting, as the sight of light came from what seemed like not far away. From the illuminated torches he could make out a city, nestled between sand dunes, probably built around an oasis. He quickened his pace, not caring if Kellen could keep up or not. They could probably be there in an hour if they hurried.

" What the," Kellen said as he looked up at the falling ash." what just happened?" Kellen thought, getting up. "Oh My Gosh, he saved my life," Kellen thought as Xiao stopped the black fires. Kellen looked up at the ash falling down and smiled as the other sandworms fled." Holy cow," Kellen thought and sheathed his swords." Tha- Xiao!" Kellen shouted as Xiao fell. " Oh Crap," Kellen thought and ran over." he is in pretty bad shape, but maybe," Kellen thought as he watched Rile pick him up," should I use it," Kellen thought as he started searching his bag.
"Rile wait for a second," Kellen said as Rile started walking. Kellen had pulled out a pendent he kept of only emergancies. It took him three jobs to get this thing, but he had a dept to pay. Kellen put the pendent around Xiao's neck and spoke words of activation. The pendent gave off a small green glow.” It’s a healing pendent for elfs. I don’t know how it will react with his human side, but it is all i got. Without, well, his chances are better with,” Kellen said and sighed. “If I only I bothered to learn healing magics!” Kellen thought angrily at himself.Kellen quickly pulled of his cloak and torn it into peices and slowly wrapped Xiao's shoulder up into a makeshift bandage." need to stop the rest of the bleeding, but with the sand in his wound, it is a sure guess it will be infected before long. dark take it that we don't have a water to clean it," kellen thought as he finished tying the last knot."That sould hold," kellen said and looked at Rile."What?" kellen asked."In my trade it is best to learn all you can about the body," kellen said and looked at the remines of his cloak."Dark take it, this one was my favorite," kellen thought but grined. Kellen looked up as Rile and asked,” Can you see the city? can't see a thing from the ground.”

The winged beast just had to feel like the hero. Rile rolled his eyes and shook his head, but didn't stop him from trying to patch up Xiao's arm. The centaur, who had been around magic users before, knew that Xiao's only real problem was exhaustion from the magic use, the travelling he had done, probably mixed in with some dehydration. All Xiao needed was rest, food, and drink. "He'll be fine," Rile told Kellen, quickening his pace so that the winged man would leave the unconcious Xiao alone. He just wanted to get to the city.
On they plodded, Rile almost at a trot in his anticipation. The air grew cold. Rile began to worry about Xio, exposed to the air on his back. The wind also picked up, blowing cold sand into Rile's face. Not long now. The city grew nearer, and Rile felt safer as the light grew stronger. Finally, they came upon the city...
