He occasionally will venture out into the world to personally seek new flesh for himself.
History:Three hundred and twenty years ago he was created to a Barron Ajax Krimwell. Krimwell was a vastly intelligent man, well versed in philosophy, mathematics, and biology. He couldn't have children of his own, so in sorrow he began seeking another route to carry on his legacy. When he was around thirty, Krimwell came upon his answer: An old scroll he uncovered in the tomb of a mummified wizard. Not wanting to disturb the old wizards rest he stowed the scroll away in his robe and made his way back to his estate.
Baron Krimwell was an extremely wealthy man, he could afford to sit away withdrawn in his study for weeks at a time, so he did. He sat in his study for weeks after he discovered the scroll. He decoded the script of the wizard and studied the contents. The scroll contained the process for creating life. A creature of many faces, a doppelganger. He had heard of them of course, nightmare stories of a creature that always hid it's true face s lie in its self. But life it was, Intelligent life, a creature capable of thinking.
After many hours of preparations he acquired all that was necessary to create the living construct. For hours he toiled in his laboratory and at the end of a long sweat filled night the Doppelganger was born. An ugly creature, and they knew it. They hated seeing themselves in the mirror. The doppelganger smashed every reflective surface in minutes after his creation. That's when he turned on his master, Krimwell hadn't a chance. He didn't scream, he didn't run, he was consumed.
Laden with the knowledge of his creator, he was grief stricken. The poor man had brought him life. His form changed into that of his creator. He swore he would honor his memory by wearing his face and carrying on his quest for knowledge. He took his name and even went by the last name of Krimwell for a time. But as the years drug on he realized the his quest for knowledge was being stunted by staying in the deep Laiten Swamp. He doubted learning how to properly make gumbo and how to court his cousin was honoring Krimwell's quest for knowledge.
So he left the swamp, he took only what he could carry with him. Gold was unimportant to him. He could always acquire more. As the world turned he continued on his quest for knowledge and slowly grew to understand that Baron Krimwell had been a lonely man. His wife had left him after discovering he could give her no children. Why this saddened Krimwell so had evaded him until he discovered he couldn't fulfill the wish to create a child himself.
Ajax couldn't fulfill the rest of the Barons wishes after all. He couldn't continue his line. Stricken with grief over his failure he grew cold and reclusive. He consumed a wealthy land owner in the Northern region of Cascentra and he lived there under the name of Ajax Ablair, Ablair being the surname of the land owner. Time continued to pass Ajax, and he began to draw attention from other local lords of the area. He was starting to be renowned as an eccentric party host. The upper class treated it as a game, whoever had the gut to stay at his estate the longest was the winner. Ajax found these games petty but enjoyed the company.
The party lifestyle wore on him. He no longer enjoyed the company of his guests, he scorned it. So, he began treating them as a game himself, he needed a hobby to fill his time. So he began collecting faces.
