Illmi sat on a tree that leaned across an area of quicksand. She had been crying for the baby bird that was trying to learn how to fly and met its doom as it fell down. Wiping her tears, she went up to its nest. There was another baby bird waiting for the arrival of its mother. It squawked as she got close to it and opened its mouth thinking it was its mother coming to feed it. She went to the branch hanging over the quicksand and put her hands over it. It started to grow thick lush leaves, hiding the quicksand. Illmi hoped it would stop the bird from falling all the way down. The mother needs to be more careful of where she puts her nest, she thought, taking off towards the Zyabeth Forest. She didn't want to be around when the mama came home or she might have mistaken Illmi as a meal for her baby.

Xiao pushed a few tree branches back as he crossed the Laiten Swampland. His right foot made a gushing noise as he stepped onto a puddle of quicksand. "Oh, damn." He murmured. He hadn't noticed it since it was covered up by so many leaves. He looked up and grabbed onto a low hanging branch then pulled his foot out.
It was there that he noticed a small bird's nest. Two empty eggs sat in it as well as a healthy baby bird, waiting for its mother to come feed it. A thought struck him. Where was the other chick? He looked around for a moment. Surely, it wasn't able to fly away yet. Reluctantly his blood red eyes looked down to the quicksand. The little bird had fallen to its demise. With a small sigh, he plucked the remains of the chick from the quicksand's snare. So gently he held it in his hands. A proper burial was the least he could do. "So young." He mused sadly.
He found a patch of soft soil and buried the little chick. Then continued on his way. What kind of mother would let her child die?

Illmi heard a rustle and looked behind her. She noticed a figure over by the nest and flew back. Landing on a branch above the nest, she watched as he picked up the dead baby bird. She gripped the leaf as she watched him. It didn't look like he wanted to eat the bird so she was grateful for that. She watched as he buried the baby bird in some soft ground. Flying over to him she said. "You're so kind." She hoped she didn't startle him as she hovered by his right ear. Illmi glanced at him once again and noticed he resembled an elf.

"OK, Why are we meeting here of all places," Kellen asked his client, some drow calling himself black. “And why can't I know your name again?"
"Because it is safer to me if you don't," black responded and continued." I need for my experiment and for fun too. I need two animal shifters, a banshee, a basilisk, and a gorgon. Also a fairy if you can find one but that is extra. For the creatures I will pay you this," the drow said, pulling out a mace with magic runes carved on it.
“No way, you found it! How? Never mind, I'll get your stuff," Kellen said and spread his wings and burst through the trees, flying away.
"I expected no less," black said and slipped away into the shadows.
"Now, two animal shifters, a banshee, a basilisk, and a gorgon. Also a fairy if possible," Kellen read off from the list. "Not too hard, I mean, this is the swamp land," Kellen joked and dove to the tree line, landing silently." Oh, you have got to be kidding me," Kellen said and he slipped through and landed by his old friend Xiao." there goes taking this fairy," Kellen thought glumly and asked," what are you doing here? Didn't I last see you in the desert?"

Illmi noticed the newcomer and tried her best to hide. He startled her as he landed, scaring her so she glowed bright green. She flew back to the tree with the nest hoping to stay hidden enough so if the mama bird were to come back she wouldn't see her as well. As she glowed she watched as the newcomer said something to the one burying the baby bird. He also had pointy ears like an elf but he flew, which from Illmi's understanding, most elves don't fly. Staring from behind a leaf, she watched them from where she was.

“You can come out from behind that leaf you know, I am not going to hurt you," "yet "Kellen said and thought as he stepped around Xiao and closer to the fairy." Oh, sorry," Kellen said as he noticed he had a dagger drawn." why that dagger?" he thought to himself but shrugged it off." It is kind of hard to hid while you are glowing you know," Kellen joked and pulled the leaf away, smiling an amused smile, not the predator one he usually wore. “so, my I have the honor to know you name," Kellen said and took a step back, giving some room. He noticed her gave went to his wings and he chuckled." half breed," Kellen said and chuckled.

Xiao neared swatted the little fairy away. Her breath tickled his ear when she spoke. It was a reflex, but he stopped himself just before he hit her. “Oh. I didn’t realize someone was watching.” He smiled warmly. Then tilted his head in confusion. “Kind? No. I’m not, really.” He just felt pity for the little bird. To have died so young. And it seemed unsightly to let the little body rot in the sand. Was that being kind?
He near jumped out of his skin when Kellen landed next to him. He certainly wasn’t expecting that. “Hey, Kellen.” He smiled to his friend. He blinked a few times before answering. “Well… Yea, but you’re here, so why can’t I be?” He shrugged. “Anyways, I’m just passing on by.”
He watched as Kellen talked to the startled little fairy. Knowing Kellen, he was most likely trying to collect something for someone so that he could get paid in some type of reward.

Her glow was not diminishing as she eyed the two warily. "My name is Illmi. I am a fairy of the earth." If the green didn't give that away, then perhaps the fact that little flowers started to grow around her did. When ever she was emotional or scared she had to work harder to control her powers.
She did not come out of hiding, in fact, when the man moved the leaves she simply hid behind a branch. "I really should be on my way now," she said nervously. She was only four inches tall so these men were intimidating. At least the one that walked up to her was. Her eyes turned to the dagger he had in his hand.

Xiao smiled. “I‘m sorry that my friend has scared you. He’s really a good kid. You don’t have to worry so much, Miss Illmi.” He reassured her. But in truth he wasn’t one hundred percent sure if Kellen wasn’t after the little fairy girl. He hoped not but since Kellen was a dealer of goods and that probably included slaves.
He nudged Kellen to put the dagger away. It seemed that was what was making Illmi so nervous. And who wouldn’t be? Even more so when you’re only a few inches tall. A dagger nearly twice your size would be more than enough to send you on edge.
Then he remember that he did not introduce himself after the fairy gave her name. “Ah, I’m Xiao by the way.” He quickly said.

Illmi hesitantly backed away from the protection of the branch and then flew to where she was closer to Xiao. She was still iffy about the other man, seeing as it seemed he has taken some sort of interest in her.
"Well I really need to be heading back, I have to give medicine to my companion. She was really hurt and a kindly dryad was able to make me a medicine mixture to help her mend her wing. She is a ladybug named Oliza." Illmi had attempted another search for another fairy around but had failed. That is what brought her to the swamplands so far away from her forest home. Now it was time to head back.

"KID?" Kellen said ands slipped the dagger away. “I am 150 years old, and still young," Kellen said with a smile. Kellen noticed how the fairy kept a distance and Xiao still kept an eye on him and he sighed." look, I am not here for Illmi, OK. I am only in the woods for a couple beast, and none of them are fairies," Kellen said and raised his right hand in a promise, thinking," well, there goes my bonus, but the original reward is worth it."
“I am sorry I scared you fairy Illmi, but it my trade, if you can't intimidate everyone and ever thing and gain respect and fear, you don't survive long enough to live through the week," Kellen said with a small bow towards the fairy. Kellen pulled out his list, making sure Xiao and Illmi could not see it, and crossed out fairy and scribbled near it," no go."

Xiao laughed, light-hearted and warm. “That proves my point. You are a toddler’s age compared to me. And your outburst certainly proves that as well.” Although not many actually knew the true age of Xiao but it was well beyond the thousand mark. He looked to the fairy. “Ah, well, if you must be on your way then don’t let us hinder your journey.” He assured Illmi.
“Yes, that would be true.” He agreed with Kellen. People wouldn’t trust you to be good at dealing and hunting for rare items if you looked like a weakling, which Kellen was anything but that. “Ah, but, if you’re hunting a beast, would you mind any help?” He looked to the little fairy. “Bait always helps lure most things.” He shrugged and began to walk away. “Actually… I should be on my way now. A pleasure meeting you, Miss Illmi. And nice seeing you again, Kellen.” [/size]

“wow, you don't look a day above twenty," Kellen said shocked. he did not see that coming." jeez," Kellen said and looked his friend down again. “So, how old are you?" Kellen asked in bewilderment. He really was thrown off at that. “Any more surprises you have are store for me," Kellen said and sat down on a fallen tree.
“Well, I have a list of them, and I don't mind the help, but it is not worth your life for helping me. Every job I do is not easy, and I could die in each one. I've been lucky, but it is not worth yours," Kellen said and sighed. Why was he saying this? he was nearly breaking every rule of the traders life." never regret, never grief, never care, never friend, never fear, never look back, never question, never love," was the rules he had learned as a kid and he had lived by it for a long time, but now it was getting harder and harder to follow it. " never mind it, it is just, heck, you one of the first people I have ever talked to that wasn't a client, an enemy, or the prey, and I am not good at this at all," Kellen said and got up." I guess it was nice seeing you again to Xiao, and sorry for wasting your time lady Illmi."

Illmi narrowed her eyes at the man. "As long as I mind my own business and not let my curiosity get the best of me, I find it quite easy to live." Even though she was wary of him and a bit scared, she felt no respect towards him whatsoever.
She turned to Xiao, "Thanks for getting the baby bird out of the quicksand. Even if you were just doing it out of pity, it is greatly appreciated." She went to the little mound and put her hands over it, causing a beautiful red rose to grow from it.
"Goodbye now." she turned and flew away back to her home.
