The Eight Maji
The Maji are the highest ranking out of the witches and wizards of the realm. There are eight Maji in existence at a time. Each of the eight has a specific magic that they specialize in. All of the Maji are capable of performing the other magics, but their strong points are the magic they specialize in.
Maji can be either male or female. All of the Maji have become masters of magic. When one of the Maji pass on, the position is replaced by the strongest master in existence.
The Maji earn their expert knowledge of their magicks by studying underneath the Elementals and the Ancients. The Maji who specialize in elemental magic go to the Elementals once they have been given their title. The Elementals grant them some of the elements’ magical strength along with their wisdom.
The Maji of white and black magicks go to two of the ancients for this power and wisdom. The White Maji goes to the ancient Airreviax for special training. Only a designated master is given knowledge of where to find this ancient for the location of the ancient Airreviax has been guarded. Airreviax is the Creator of Life and holds many secrets dealing with white magic.
The Black Maji goes to the ancient Rever who specializes in magicks dealing with death. Rever teaches the designated master about higher black magicks. This ancient does not try to change the Black Maji into being an evil entity, but this usually occurs due to the nature of the magicks and the power involved.
The Maji are weak when facing against their polar opposites if they are evenly matched. However, if a White Maji were to face off with a Black Maji and the white was significantly weaker, then the spells would still do damage, but significantly less damage.
The Maji live for long periods of time, defying the age limits of their original races, and they live longer than normal wizards and witches. They can be killed by a physical wound that would kill any normal being, such as decapitation, cutting in half, removal of the heart or other vital organs. They do not die from blood loss, poison, or things of that nature.
