Name: Ignatia Malloy, also called Ignatia of the Swamp, the Swamp Witch, Swampy (if you have a death wish), or Iggy (By old, old friends, we're talking some one who's known her for hundreds of years) and many, many aliases, the most current is Mistress Isobel
Age: 1,244
Gender: female
Race: Witch, was born human
Hails From: was born in Bellevin, and since becoming a master, has traveled extensively, never staying in the same place for long. However, for the last few centuries she's led a quiet life in Shempii, and is where she still remains.
Ranking: Master of Witchcraft
Weapons: no weapons, unless you count her spell books and wits.
Abilities: She has mastered many forms of spell casting, along with charms, hexes, and curses. Her real strength is in potions, and its what she spends most of her days researching and producing. You'll never find a better potioneer in all of Sivion. She has not become so with out a lot of work and some treachery. She's stolen priceless books, obtained secrets, on occasion taken some one else's idea. Though since in Shempii, she's done all her own work. As her reputation grew, she has employed aliases and moving around Yviex so that it makes it difficult to find her.
Companions: despite how she always says it would be better to have no pets so that people couldn't mistake her, she's always had a fondness for hippogriffs, and has male that's about 60 years old and he lives in a large square room built off of her home in the trees
Occupation: medicine maker, herbalist, potioneer
She sells medicines to the people of Shempii, and is some what of a therapist-healer, people come to her for advice on ailments or problems, not quite knowing just how powerful she or in truth, who she really is. She'll sell potions, but nothing too powerful to commoners. She fears being found out for who she is and that her reputation of being a great potion maker will cause her to be bombarded with people begging for potions.
Appearance: Here
She is tall and willowy, though she hadn't always been so. Her skin is pale, though many could reason that in the darkness of the swamp the poor witch hasn't got much of a chance! Her face is almost squarish, the original shape of her human life, and her hair is blonde and wavy. Her eyes are honey brown and slightly narrow. She's slender with very subtle curves, however she doesn't mind and usually keeps herself well covered. She often wears a black dress with buttons going all the way down the back of her neck to her tail bone, and from there an ankle lenght skirt that flounces. Usually completed with a grey shawl and a plain black hat with a bit of netting. No, Ignatia is not one for color. She keeps her youthful appearance by one, the magic that is natually in her, and two, by taking potions of youth, a recipe variant she came up with has never let any one else see.
Personality: Ignatia is intelligent, and is fortunately quite dilligent. This pairing of qualities has led to her quick succession in the ranks. Her attitude is certainly scholarly, she makes potions to learn, not so much as to use them or sell them. She likes to read and try every spell she comes across, again, not to use against anyone, but merely to learn. Usually. She uses her magic in defense too.
She is quite easily fascinated by new things, and when she meets some one for the first time, she used to ask million questions. She realizes her inquisitiveness could get her into trouble, so now she limits herself by merely observing, almost at a spy-like level. When some one new comes to town, she pretty much stalks them by night and with her spells, naturally. If they are not magic users, or if they are young, they will not know it is her who is stalking them, let alone any one at all. She sees this behavior as a defense use of magic, she is just trying to protect her own identity and way of life.
She likes quietly studying, and helping the people of her swamp city. She never wants to be literally swamped with requests for poisons or potions of a higher level. She loves her neighbors and the people around her and helps them out because she wants to, not because some one orders her too. Ignatia is a bit of a loner in the way she doesn't get very close with people. Of course, as stated above in abilities, she is sort of a therepist-healer, meaning she listens to their problems and ailments, but she never gets a chance to give them a piece of her. In fact her only companion is her hippogriff, Stanley, who lives in a large square room built off of her manor-like house in the trees.
History: Ignatia Malloy was born to a pirate captain named Freedrik Malloy and his first wife, a tavern owner named Katerina. It wasn't probably the best up-bringing for a child, to be in a tavern full of bawdy sailors and loose women, but that's life. It was her job when she got older to do the scrubbin' and make sure the clients had enough rum in their mugs. Her father came around whenever his ship was at port, and those were her favorite times. Her mother seemed to be happier, and her father always brought her something.
Then, one day, her world seemed to fall apart. Apparently, her mother found out about Vetracie, a woman at a different port, a half breed at Liadi, no less, and Katerina claimed that the ties the bound them together were now severed. Ignatia was not sure if her mother had the authority to divorce herself from her father, but from that day, Captain Malloy was as good as dead to that tavern.
Her mother died when she was 22, and for a while Ignatia ran the tavern herself. Business died down a bit as her mother had been a greater proprietress than herself, and Ignatia felt like there was something else she should be doing. Then, her old man Captain Malloy came in. Of course she recognized him, but he did not recognize his daughter. Not that it had surprised her, it had been 10 years since "the divorce". After they talked and she told him what went on since he left, he asked her to come with him on the Silver Lady. She only hesitated for a moment before going with him.
She tried to be the best pirate she could, and for ten more years she sailed the oceans. Then, their ship was attacked by a heavily armed naval ship accompanying the merchant ship the Silver Lady was targeting. Ignatia's father's ship was sunk, and Ignatia was the only survivor, fished out of the sea and questioned by the Captain of the armored ship. She was afraid he would kill her if she admitted she was a pirate, so she told him that she had been taken against her will and that her name was Kate. It was the first time she used an alias, and the mere fact it worked was perhaps why she favored them later in life.
There had been a wizard on board who had taken an interest in her. He told the captain that he knew where "Kate" was from and would get her there safely. Since the Wizard was a well trusted man, there had been no quarrels. However, Ignatia was afraid, afraid that with his knowing eyes, he saw right through her guise. And he did.
Once they were on the shores and away from every one, the Wizard asked her who she truly was. He asked her in such a way that she could not stop herself from blurting her entire life story, even though she tried. The white haired wizard smiled knowingly and nodded, "I thought so." He took a puff from his pipe. He paused before saying, "You tried hard to refuse to tell me. There is strong will in you. Tell me, can you read?"
"Yes, sir," She squirmed, she could read, as her mother needed her to read to make sure the ale and rum salesmen didn't cheat her, but she didn't like to let on that she was more intelligent than anyone else in the pirate city, or even among her uneducated fellow sailors.
The wizard merely nodded again after that and took her with him to Temarra. There she read his books, and practiced writing spells, and not long after became his apprentice. She studied with him for 3 centuries before it was decided she was a master in her own right. She was well spoken, and relatively well liked int he magic community, and she loved how she had such a good reputation. When she was 500 years old, she took on an apprentice, however the boy was lazy and stupid, and she couldn't stand him. She'd never admit that after that she neglected him, but still to this day, she feels guilty because the boy ended up blowing himself up with a spell much to powerful on his own. Even though she had nothing to do with it, the mere fact that he was working alone she feels is her fault. She feels like she wasn't attentive to notice how he was rebelling and experimenting. She has never had an apprentice since, and has preferred to live alone, fearing her reputation marred and that people think her less intelligent than she is.
As she got more and more skilled, more and more people paid her attention and asked for favors. Ignatia hated that people only wanted her for her work, and eventually, at 600 years old, left Temarra for good. She spent the better half of her life traveling. She's stayed in cities for decades, but never centuries, usually only until some one gets too close. However, she's found a good home in Shempii and has been there for a few hundred years. Lately she's been known to the people of Shempii as Isobel, or Mistress Isobel, no one has yet discovered that she really is the potioneer named Ignatia Malloy. Maybe one day, after all, it's been 3 and a half centuries of quiet existence, something's bound to happen.
