"Come one!"
Several heads turned at the sound of the loud voice, curious to see what the ruckus was about. There seemed to be a young girl standing on a wood crate, waving people down and yelling to grab their attention; al ready a small crowd had formed, more out of mild interest then any real curiousuty.
"Come ALL!" she cried again, this time louder in case she hadn't been heard. "Hurry! Hurry! Here's you chance! Come see the mystery and romance..." The girl, who looked no older then sixteen in the frumpy cloak, winked at them, illiciting a few raised brows. Just what was she trying to pull? "COME ONE! Come all! See the finest girl in town as she makes an entrance to entrance!"
She held a fist up in the air, voice carrying out over the street in case there were still others who hadn't been drawn in already. "Dance Madame Red Lady!" she cried, and through whatever was in her fist down so hard, a red plume of smoke exploded and abstructed her from view. The crowd gasped in surprise, a few of the unlucky few close enough to smell the smoke choking on the heady smell of magic.
When the smoke cleared, there stood in red a beautiful clown, painted like a doll and twirling a tambourine. She smiled for the crowd and began dancing, tapping the tambourine once or twice per beat and clapping the next couple; every time she clapped, sparks shot out and fellonto the crowd, creating the effect that she was being surrounded by lights. The crowd began to clap in tune with her, laughing cheering as she danced and occasionally made a fool of one of the men closer to her.
She was whirling and twirling in a mass of red silk, sparks continuing to shoot out around her. The children at the front of the crowd clapped in delight as she came closer to drop some candy in there little hands before spinning away with a light hearted laugh; the cheers grew louder when, from out of no where, a twirling staff appered in place of the tambourine and the music continued anyways.
The beat suddenly started to get faster and faster and her dance became more wild and untamed, the twirling of her skirt making it look like she could take off into the sky at any moment. It was during this time that the acrobatics started. No-handed flips and somersaults around the little circle she'd created continued to awe the crowd as she used the staff to vault so that she was twirling in the air. Her painted face continued to smile out at her audience in invitation as she danced, hands moving fluidly as if she was beckoning to them to join her, but the movements of her body warning them to stay away if they valued they're lives.
The dance was meant to look like a dance with death; beautiful and welcoming, but at the same time dangerous and foreboding.Join me if you can her smile whispered. Or be forever stuck in my wed of death.
The effect was lost on he children who just enjoyed watching the pretty clown dance, but a few of the older viewers had begun to understand that she was not someone to be trifled with.
There were more red plumes of smoke billowing around her now, seemingly rippling off her body the same way the sparks had. She made as if to fall from her upside down perch, but twirled at the last moment to slide down the staff as if wrapping herself around it like a snake, the red smoke doing the same to her as it struggled to follow its creator. The clown landed gracefully on the ground still wrapped around her makeshift poll, nodding once to signify her dance was done.
The crowd erupted into cheers, but the dancer merely smiled, getting to her feet to curtsy for the crowd.
