My character: Araenia--- Araenia, or Reni as she preferred to be called, looked out over the flatlands. She didn't relish covered this ground but nothing could be done about it if she wanted to get across to explore the mountains. Her white gauzy dress clung to her and was gathered around her with a rope belt to keep it from trailing. It was a little too big for her and didn't quite sit right on her small frame, but it was her favorite. The long wavy blonde hair was tied up rather messily and just barely grazed her shoulders. Ever since leaving her home she had come across a variety of places and things. Some of which were good experiences and some of which were not so good. Regardless every new experience was an adventure in her eyes so she had no complaints. Even the multiple attempts from people to capture her, which came as quiet a surprise, was an adventure on it's own. She hadn't realized that captured fairies were of any value. None had been successful thus far partly thanks to Nico and partly thanks to her own cleverness. The last attempt had been a while ago and so she wasn't worried too much, in fact she almost never worried. Nothing had gone wrong so far, so things were looking rather chipper. As she floated about three feet from the ground she looked down to see Nicodemus walking along the ground beside her. He had take the form of a fox, his favorite, and trotted at an easy pace beside her. Her bright green eyes seemed to have a life of their own as a playful smile crossed her lips. "Nico, become a bird! We could have a race!" The fox looked up at her with a bland expression on his face. A clear dismissal of her suggestion. Turning his face frontwards again he continuing walking at an easy pace. The small fairy's face fell into a frown. "You are no fun" she said with a slight pout in her voice. The fox simply sniffed a bit to show his thoughts on that statement which only caused the fairy to frown even more, sinking lower into the pout. "Well...could you at least be a horse, i'm getting tired of flying..." the fox merely stomped his foot on the ground. "No i don't want to walk! I'm tired of walking too! Just be a horse...or a cow" That made the fox stop in midstep. He looked up to her before putting his ears flat against his head. "Fine fine, not a cow." Nico's ears perked back up and he continued walking only to dip his head lower in frustration hearing her next statement. "but at least a horse..." They lapsed into silence and Reni wondered for a moment if Nico was mad at her. She didn't think she had done anything wrong, but the shapeshifter could be so testy at times. Without warning, a small sparrow was fluttering around her. "NICO!" she shouted before he took off, the small fairy following closely behind a wide grin on her face. --- Reni was tired after her race with the sparrow, and he was as well. She had won of course, and was back to floating at a mundane pace across the plains, Nico following shortly behind her. The race had been a temporary release from the monotony but as Nico had made it evident it would be foolish to continue at that pace for long. So she settle for a lazy drift nearly falling asleep from her boring surroundings. At least the mountains promised some adventure to come.

There was rustling as something small and soft-footed ran through the long blades of grass. The head of a red fox peered out from the grass and looked around before giving two quick jumps out from a longer area of grass. Upon the foxes back was a female gnome, and this gnome happened to be Rosemary Greenbottom.
Her tiny hands held a rope that was fashioned like a leash and collar. It wrapped around the fox’s neck, but not too tightly of course. The gnome was holding tight to the rope, making sure that she would not lose the animal. The female fox was Rosemary’s means of getting over the Moditant Plains in a faster fashion. If she had walked, the trip would have taken days.
Pushing a few dark graying strands of hair out of her face, Rosemary glanced around with vivid green eyes. She was looking for a few spices and herbs that she knew grew wild out on the plains. She would find them, eventually. The female gnome had a good eye for such things.
Rosemary was dressed for the hunt of these herbs as well. She wore a dark green dress that forced her to ride like a lady upon the fox. This she did not mind. The gnome could ride like a man or woman; it all depended on what she was wearing. A brown belt was fastened around her waist and held many tools. Most of the tools would be used for picking the spices. She also had a tan bag upon her back that would be used to hold all of the herbs she would pick.
The fox started to move forward, and Rosemary quickly stopped her. “Oy, beastie, I be still lookin’ for them spices,” the gnome said, somewhat annoyed with how much the fox was wanting to continue scurrying along.

The fairy's mind had drifted off elsewhere. Araenia was just about sick and tired of these plains. Her mouth opened and she looked down to complain to Nico about how long this was taking when she noticed that he was no longer on the ground beside her. The floating fairy spun in a circle, eyes trained on the ground, looking for the fox. He wasn't anywhere near her. "Nico?" she called out. Hearing a small bark she looked towards the sound to see a small fox head pop out of the grasses. He wasn't too far but he wasn't in the direction they had been going. "Nico what are you doing..." she asked confused. It wasn't like him to get distracted, that was her job.
The fox took a couple of leaps over the grasses before disappearing in them to appear again as a sparrow again. He fluttered around in a few circles but moved slowly back in the direction he had gone in before. "Is there something over there?" Speeding up the fairy followed after Nico as he flew a little ways before diving down into the brush.
A wide grin was playing across the fairy's lips. This was a fun game. Following her friend she proceeded cautiously forward. There was a strange little humanoid creature holding a leash to a fox. Her green eyes widened with excitement. She could feel Nico coming up beside her tugging at her hair. He had seen what he wanted too and now he wanted to leave, before the creatures noticed them. Araenia was not having any of that.
Before Nico could stop her, she had already left his side and flew low to the ground towards the small person. Reaching out as she got close she picked her up and hovered above the ground holding the person out in front of her.
"You're so tiny!"she exclaimed. Usually she couldn't say anything being only four feet tall herself so to meet someone even smaller than her was of extreme amusement to the fairy. . "Why are you so small? Nico! Nico! Come look!" she called out excitedly looking over to where he had been. "Look what I found!" Araenia was ecstatic that she had found something of interest in the never ending plains, and completely forgot that it was actually Nico who had noticed the people.

“Put me down righ’ now!” Rosemary protested instantly as the fairy picked her up off of the fox and now held her. The gnome was no play thing, and she would not have this at all. She may have been tiny like a doll, but she definitely was not one. She was a living, breathing creature who would not allow such treatment.
“I mean, now, fairy! Before my fox goes off runnin’ without me.” Luckily, the female fox simply sat down and watched with a tilted head as the fairy picked up the gnome. Even the fox found amusement in this, the damn beast.
How many times had Rosemary been picked up and tossed around like a doll? Well, actually, just a few times in her life, but that was for reason. The gnome had never been afraid of pulling out one of her kitchen knives and using it to defend herself. However, at this moment, she could not get to one of those knives. If the fairy had not taken her by surprise, this would all be playing out so differently.

Araenia's looked at the woman as she protested being picked up, her face shifting from excited to a mixture of apology and surprise. Nico had changed back into his fox form and was slinking out of the brush, obviously disgruntled about this entire situation. With a small bark he looked up at Araenia, silently telling her to listen to the woman's requests.
"Oh oh, i'm sorry" she said and she drifted down from the air to place the gnome gently back on her feet. "I didn't mean to upset you!" she said but her grin slowing crept back to her face. She was hovering parallel to the ground, but not quite touching it as she looked at the woman curiosity brimming in her eyes."Why are you so tiny? Are you a different type of fairy?" she asked rather excitedly.

“I have no wings,” Rosemary said as she took the rope of the red fox once more after the fairy had sat her back down on the ground. “I be a gnome. A completely different species than ye.”
The female gnome pulled herself up onto the fox’s back, her little hands forming fists in the fox’s fur as she climbed up. Her eyes moved back up to the fairy. “Ye should really think before ye do,” Rosemary told the fairy. She could tell that this fairy was rather young still and very curious. “Next time I can’t promise that I will be so nice.”

"A gnome." she repeated. She watched as the small woman climbed back up on her fox.
Hearing the woman lecture her on her actions the smile fell for a moment "You sound like my mother." Nico snuffed and she glared at him. She knew he agreed with the Gnome's words. "Recklessness leads to discovery!" she said with enthusiam. It was hard to believe this small creature posing much threat to her, but then again, most people larger than herself would think the same about her. They were always sorely mistaken.
She drifted up in the air gracefully before coming back down on the other side of the Gnome, ignoring Nico's gestures. The fox wanted to leave, but Araenia found thi encounter to be much more fun than heading back out to the open plains.
"Well, Ms. Gnome. My name is Araenia. You can call me Reni though.

“I am a mother,” Rosemary said to the fairy. She had given birth to a handful of children; she knew how to handle young ones when it came down to it. By now, she should have been able to. She had raised five children, and she was now helping to raise all of her grandchildren.
The fox on which the gnome sat suddenly darted forward, knocking Rosemary off. The female gnome cursed loudly at the sudden movements. The female fox and moved around in a quick movement and had pounced on Nico.
“Damn animal,” Rosemary said as she stood up.

"Oh that would explain it" Reni muttered. When the animal leaped forward, knocking the small gnome from her seat the fairy burst into peals of laughter. Her thin arms wrapped around her waist as she laughed seeing Nico pounced on by the Gnome fox mount.
"Aw, Nico, she likes you!" the mirthful fairy managed to gasp out between laughs. "Ms. Gnome are you alright?" she asked ignoring Nico's pleading look on his foxy face. He was desperately trying to get away from the she-fox.
"Oh no mister, you are on your own with your new lady friend." she called over to him. Turning back to the gnome she smiled. "What is your name. I really don't like having to call you Ms. Gnome. Names are so much more personal, and lovely. I'm sure you have a lovely name. Much lovelier than Ms. Gnome." the fairy just smiled as she hovered tilted at an angle to the ground so she could be on more or less the same level as the small woman.

“My name be Rosemary,” the gnome told the fairy as she brushed off her dress as though it were dirtied by falling on the ground. “I be fine for now. Don’ know ‘bout yer fox, though.”
She looked over to the fox who had escaped her. The female fox was pouncing on Nico. She bit at his ears, playful and pawed at his face. It was rather amusing to watch and even the female gnome that had gotten into a bad mood gave a laugh.
“Yer fox seems not ta like dee attention, Reni. Ye might wanna help him out der.”

"Rosemary" the fairy repeated. "Like the herb!" excited that she could make a reference she clapped to herself before looking back down at the small woman as she continued talking.
"Oh Nico?" Reni looked over at her companion who was ferverishly trying to avoid the bites and swats from the female fox and laughed. "I think this will be good for him." she stuck her tongue out at the fox who by now had shifted back to a sparrow and flew to hide himself in her tangled hair. "You are such a baby sometimes you know that. I think a little romance would be good for you." she spoke to the sparrow who was now glaring at her from under her hair.
"Oh, Ms. Rosemary, this is Nico." as soon as she had said his name she yelped. "Sorry sorry, His name is Nicodemus. I call him Nico...he doesn't always like it..." she muttered rubbing her neck where the sparrow had nipped her. "He's my guardian"
