Appearance:
Personality: Nero, although a vampire, is a noble being. He has spent years under the tutelage of his mentor, Leo, becoming a man of compassion, selflessness, and integrity. He treats everyone and anyone and anything with respect, until given reason not to respect a person. Polite, and often courteous, he is a personification of a lawfully good person, but often holds conflict to the laws of his people, and to his own moral views.
History: Nero was born to a human family, and was at one time a prince of a human tribe. However, this tribe had long since been eradicated, but Nero was rescued by a vampire, Leo, who was known as a Paladin, a group of Elite warriors that were dedicated to good. For years, Leo raised the then-mortal Nero as his own son, and taught him the differences between good and evil, and the virtues of the Paladins.
Upon Nero’s 20th birthday, he initiated the trials on Nero, a five-year long quest in proving Nero ready to become a member of the righteous order. Nero’s first trial was to track and defeat ten Orcs. This was not an easy task, as he had a list of ten Orcs to face. Three were easy to find, as they traveled together. Once Nero caught up with them months later, he watched as they held a human girl captive for food. Fortunately, he managed to slay each effectively, taking one out while he slept, the next in a fight and the final one with little to no effort. Returning the girl safely, he began a two year quest to kill the remaining seven orcs. Most in which had made deals with other creatures to protect them, but Nero managed to persevere and destroy every last one of them, despite the attempts on his own life, and the wounds he received.
His second task was stopping a dark sorcerer in a town. This was an event that was nearly fatal for Nero, as the sorcerer was a master of illusion, and managed to elude Nero several times with false visions of Nero’s dead family, however, as Nero began to face his own past and let go, he managed to defeat the sorcerer, who could no longer feed on his fears. However, this was not a battle that was a true victory, as the sorcerer managed to use the remainder of his powers to burn the people and their village to the ground. Their screams still pain Nero, despite coming to terms with it. It was what Nero claims to be the most difficult loss in his life.
Nero’s third and final trial was the trials of death, a task in which he would have to spend five years in a high terrain environment that, thanks to a band of sorcerers, would hold a constantly shifting environment wherever he was. Furthermore, he was to be pursued by a killer, who would try to kill him whenever the opportunity arose. The end result of this final trial was to make his way out of the terrain, facing all of the creatures that inhabited the harsh area, and face the assassin that pursued him. This trial tried to take claim of his life many times, as he faced mountains infested with dragons, demons that hungered for his blood and flesh, and an unknown assassin that killed any of the people in their way to kill him. Nero had to protect several innocent people in his trials from the assassin as well, saving every innocent, whether they were good, or…misguided. Hunger and survival proved a massive part in his trials, having Nero search for food, and water. As the years passed and Nero came to the end of his trials, he had to face and defeat the assassin permanently, in order to finally finish his trials. As he reached the gateway towards his mentor’s home, the assassin met him in brutal and grueling combat, which was more fierce and unforgiving than anything he had ever known. The assassin preyed on his past, his mistakes, and on his past trials, performing trickeries that nearly claimed his life, but Nero persevered. Fighting back against his opponent during a sword fight, and catching him off guard. Once disarmed and gravely injured, Nero got his chance to kill his opponent, but in the end, he spared his pursuer, passing his final test of purity. The assassin turned out to be Leo in disguise the whole time, who congratulated his student on his trials. Leo awarded his apprentice with a mythril sword, and a new outfit of armor that signified his ranking as Paladin. Furthermore, a stallion that Nero managed to raise from a baby, was awarded to him as a companion, and so was a hawk as a messenger.
The last marking was Nero being turned into a vampire. Upon being turned, Nero spent his years as a vampire, fighting through the night and risking his life time and time again against forces of darkness, until he could bravely enter the sunlight, himself. Years had passed since Nero’s trials, but he never forgot them. Nero became a wise Paladin, and a powerful warrior. He now travels the world when possible for his people, when needed and act as protector of those that need protection.
