There was a loud crack and series of gasps erupted from the small crowd of children and adults gathered at the street corner. Even as it began to clear, they struggled to catch a glimpse of the performer just beyond their sight to see what had happened. When it was completely gone, a wave of murmurs washed over them when they saw that she was gone; where had she gone? Had they been duped? Was the clown just another dirty pick pocket out to steal them blind?
A loud whistle drew their attention, and a collection of heads both big and small snapped up to see the young performer balancing precariously upside down on the nearest lamp post. The staff wobbled slightly for effect and they each gasped in amazement and horror as she proceeded pull out her extendable staff and make it grow, lifting her even higher into the air. Winking at some of the children, she switched hands, hovering just two seconds in the air before she managed to grab onto the staff with the other.
After a few minutes of this, she preformed a split while still hovering upside down on the staff with one hand, signaling the end of her performance with a smile on her painted face. The audience clapped appreciatively, some of the adults dropping coins into a bag she had left on the ground while the children trie dto convince their parents to hold back so they could talk to pretty clown. Ro dropped down to the ground in a crouch, waving that the remaining straggler should head home.
"I'll be here tomorrow," she promised as she went to collect the day's earnings. "I promise."

Morpheus hadn't been on this plane long, merely here for his own personal amusement. The djinn was dressed in an open front shirt, letting his body show for itself and his companion, Crow was perched on his shoulder. The body he was in was borrowed, but was a memory of one of the few people he actually respected. The crowd drew his attention while he watched the young human girl perform her tricks for the crowd.
Humans are too easily amused, he thought, a dark grin spreading its way across his lips. Crow cawed in agreement, cracking a toothy grin at a young girl. Reaching up to stroke the feathers on his stomach, Morpheus soothed him, placing one hand around his beak and sending a wicked look to the bird. Crow hung his head, looking almost ashamed before deciding to tuck his head under his wing and sleep.
The ancient djinn had made his way to the edge of the crowd, observing the girl more closely. She was pretty, for a human and possessed skills that mot humans did not have. She may be a fun one, he thought as his dark eyes took in her performance and stepped back slightly when it ended. Deciding to entertain himself for the time being, he could feel his wily nature rearing its head. "That was an interesting show, my dear," he said conversationally.

Her fight or flight instincts kicked in at the sound of his smooth voice, and Ro snapped around to face him like a frightened animal. She blinked at the sight that met her (what had she been expecting, the police?) before giving the man a disarming, if not suspicious, smile. "You're just saying that," she replied, bending down to gather some of the coins that had missed the bag; looked like she could sleep in an Inn tonight. "I'm not nearly as skilled as any of the real magic users around here; you're probably ued to it."

"Used to what? A show of a magic user?" he asked, twisting her words ever so slightly as a handsome smirk played about his lips. Crow shifted slightly, lifting his head with a sleepy look and tilted it, taking in the girl. Turning his head to the other side, he tucked it under the wing closest to the djinn's neck.
"And I do not compliment often, my dear. You should accept it," he said with a slight bow, careful not to disturb the bird resting on his shoulder. He tucked an arm over his waist and bent there, dipping his head in acknowledgment of the young human. "There is nothing that disturbs me more than hollow words."

Well, given the fact that she wasn't formally trained and that she only knew a few spells, she wasn't that good. That was what she WANTED to say, but something told her that it would be wise to just agree to whatever he said before he got pissy. "Thank you," she said instead, incling her head slightly as stood up straight once more. "I'll take that to heart."
Meanwhile, her eyes had wandered over to the crow resting on his shoulder lazily, blue eyes curious. Crows were commonplace in her line of work (her REAL line of work), but it was odd to see one with someone who might or might not be human. She couldn't tell yet.

Morpheus just smiled as he straightened up out of the bow, whispering something to the bird perched on his shoulder to rouse it from sleep. "You'll have to forgive him, he tends to be quite lazy at times," the djinn said by way of explanation as the bird roused itself and stretched it's wings.
Crow was rather large for a bird, almost twice the size of any normal crow and not afraid to show it. The bird cawed once as it woke up, sending a snobbish look down at the girl from its perch atop Morpheus' shoulder. The djinn was rather tall in this form, appearing a few inches above six foot and no stranger to inquisitive glances.
"He prefers to be called Crow," Morpheus said as he stroked the feathers under the bird's beak. "And I am known as Jarlaxle."

She coakced a brow at the bird, clearly unimpressed by the show of dominence; she'd seen bigger. "Ro," she replied stiffly, unconciously clutching the day's earnings to her chest. She'd rather it be the small cylinder that was her staff, but she'd stashed that in a pocket in her red cloak when she'd landed. "What really brings you over to my corner, my Lord? It can't just be because the little human can use a little magic; that's what the Wizards and Witches down the street are for. I just happen to be a clown."
As she said that, she brought a hand up to remove some of the faint make-up she'd used to draw some attention. She was just a regular human, was what she was trying to say, no need to bother with me. What she was really doing was trying to prove she was of no real interest to him and he should leave her alone.

"I am no lord, child," he said, clearly amused as Crow decided to go back to sleep, bored with his master's antics. "And I have no desire to rob you when I can get what I want when I want," he said, alluding to his power but not his specie.
"Witches and Wizards leave a sour taste in my mouth, always lying and breaking promises until something bigger comes along and hurls their words back at them," he said, eyes flashing a dark red at the mere mention of the 'magickal' beings. "And all humans are clowns," he said with a mysterious smile.

Well, at least she knew that he wasn't human. And dangerous. Time to tread lightly, just in case. "That's what we're here for," she muttered, digging in the bag for a hanky to help get rid of the rest of the makeup. She hated putting the stuff on, but what clown was a clown without the white make-up and funny shapes painted on? The icky, thick feeling was worth it when kids smiled at her the way they did. "To amuse you immortals," she finished, making a triumphant sound in the back of her throat upon finding it.
She immediately began to wipe the rest off.

Morpheus laughed then, the sound that came from his lips one that drew appreciative looks from all those around him. It was a reaction that couldn't be helped, he was truly amused and had a tendency to draw eyes to him with approving looks taking in his borrowed form. "Dear Ro," he said, amusement flashing in his eyes. "I am no immortal, but it may far seem like one to most every other creature alive at this time."
He waved a hand, clearly amused by her and in a good mood, immediately removing the rest of her make up and restoring the hanky in her hand to a clean condition. The djinn was rarely so 'kind' and 'giving', it was best to accept when he performed some service.

The blonde was too busy staring at him to notice the service done for her; that had been a cute laugh. After a moment of dumbfounded silence, she shook her head glanced down at the hanky to notice it's been retsored to pristine condition. There weren't even any bloodstains from when she'd botched a few heists. Reaching up a tentative hand, she felt that he'd even removed the remaining make-up. "Thanks," she said grudgingly, all the while calling him a show off in her head. Stupid magical beings...
Meanwhile, Ro herself had recieved a few curious glances since the magical removal of her show paint, but she just assumed it was because she was standing next to the giant.

"You are quite welcome my dear," the djinn said with a rakish grin across his lips. He ran a hand through his red and black hair, pushing the longish strands out of his eyes as he looked around to take in the people around them with an amused smile. The djinn was cocky, yes, but he had earned the right to be so. One doesn't live to be over forty thousand without having tricks up their sleeves, so to speak.
The only real oddity about the djinn, in his manner of dress, was his penchant for refusing to wear shoes. He abhorred them seeing no purpose in them since he could not get injured by the physical realm of this world. It was odd if he wore them, no matter what guise he may be in.

"So what are you really after? Surely it's not to annoy the human till she kicks your ass off her corner, is it?" she asked finally in a tone that suggested that any lie he tried to feed her would be treated like a bag of B.S, so he better come out with the truth. And while the blonde knew she didn't have the power to do such a thing (few regular humans did), she could at least give him a run for his money; her line of work tended to help with the 'get in, get out' scenario.

"Now, now, should a young lady such as yourself be using such language?" he asked, a mischievous twinkle taking residence up in the djinn's eyes. He was beginning to be truly amused by the girl and Crow had picked up on it, raising a sleepy head to glare blearily at the girl before fixing her with a toothy grin.
Morpheus calmly reached up with a hand and clamped down on the bird's beak, giving a not so subtle warning to the bird about his position. "And my dear human, I never stated once what I was after, now did I?"
Djinn were often revered as the master of crafting language and forcing it to bend back in on itself and often times making what had seemed an innocent enough statement become something else entirely.

Ro fought very hard o keep from mouthing off that he was damn straight she wasn't a lady; real ladies would have been sent into a series of giggles while they blushed at the very sight of him, shoes or no. She liked to think that her time on the road had helped desensitize her to handsome men, which seemed to be true in this case (thank god). "No, you didn't," she admitted, quite unaware of what he was doing; she'd seen the teeth on that crow, and damnit, to hell with tip toeing around the subjest. If he was going to feed her to it, he'd have done it already. "But you better now before I go medevil on your butt. I have to find a hotel before going out tonight for work."
That, of course, would be the closest she'd get to hinting at her real job without blatantly telling him. It was meant to sound as if she had better things to do then talk on a corner with a djinn, but knowing him, he'd just follow her. She just had that kind of bad luck.

"Well, medieval could be a time frame that is considered by some to be a past or the current, dependent upon the life span of the individual," Morpheus mused, clearly amused with the young girl.
"But yes, hurry along to your hotel to prepare for your heists, little one," he said with a red flash in his eyes as he scanned over her, his magic working without her knowledge. It was almost unfair, he thought, the difference in ages and the races. He was an ancient djinn and she was a mere human.
His eyes returned to their normal dark state, well as normal as he could be, sending the young human a rakish grin.

Her eyebrows shot so far up her forhead that they might have gotten lost in her hairline were this a cartoon. She was outwardly calm, but inside she was shaking with the possibility that he would do something or turn her in; it had been a long time since she'd felt any real fear for her wellbeing. She took a wary step back, glancing between both him and Crow. "What are you," she growled, hands itching to draw dagger and staff in case she needed to fight. If worse came to worse, she could always use some of that weak magic she was famous for to create a smoke screen and escape. "And what do you want from me?"

Morpheus chuckled, knowing that they were alone in the street anyways. Spreading his arms, he slowly began to levitate into the sky, his feet coming clearly off the ground. "My dear young one, did you really think I was human? I am djinn," he said, folding his arms across his chest and hovering in the air in front of her.
Crow let out one caw before launching from his master's shoulder to take up residence on the light post behind the startled thief. "I have powers beyond your comprehension and I want nothing from you that you can refuse to give. You amuse me, child," he said.

Okay, so him being a djinn was kind of cool, but the big revelation left a bad taste in her mouth truth be told; she wasn't all that impressed with it. "You know, next time you come out to a human, maybe you should turn into a cloud of smoke instead of just lifting yourself into the air; would have a better effect if you ask me," commented the peanut gallery, ever the showman as she let her gaze trace him up and down. "And I should say its fairly obvious you're not human. Your eyes were a dead giveaway from the start. That, and your buddy Crow. Even a dumbass can tell that he's way more intelligent then a regular crow. Has fangs, too."

Morpheus laughed, crossing his legs and sitting in the air while he descended enough to be eye level with the girl. He gave her a steady look, fingers tapping against his knees as an amused smirk played across his lips. "You are an interesting one," he murmured.
"So young and full of life, yet so fragile," he said as he brought a hand up to tap against his lips. "Humans are such interesting creatures," he continued, ignoring her for the time being. "So brave yet have so little to back it up. Pity you are not a djinn, for a fine one you would have made."
It was a compliment, however way it was looked at and the djinn as whole did not give out many compliments so when one was presented, it was best not to question and merely accept it.
